Learn CNC Basic Milling Techniques Part-time in 10 Weeks
Upon the successful completion of this course the student should be able to understand and perform basic machine operation, setup and G-Code programming of CNC Mills.

Objectives
- Understand Basic Shop Math, fractions, decimals, speeds and feeds formulas.
- Understand the English measurement systems and the use of measuring tools such as: scales, micrometers, and dial calipers and other measurement tools.
- Understand basic inspection tools used in the machine shop.
- Utilize comparison measurement tools such as dial and test indicators, hole gages and squares.
- CNC machine set-up rationale, understanding work and wear offsets.
- Understand the basics of tool selection and tool holding for CNC Mills.
- To demonstrate how to change and utilize various work holding devices used in milling.
- Develop a working knowledge of CNC machine programming and machining strategies using Prototrak and HAAS machines.
- To understand and utilize G and M codes to write basic CNC programs.
- Program parts using various canned cycles to manufacture parts.
- Understand basic cutter compensation techniques used in programming CNC milling machines.
- Load, unload and inspect parts manufactured in CNC milling machines.
- Manufacture parts and use tool wear offsets to ensure correct part size.
Course Outline
- Week One: Discussion fractions, decimals and machine shop math. Scales, measuring tapes and basic measurement tools . Introduction to basic knee mill programming.
- Introduction of speeds and feeds for machining.
- Week Two: How to read micrometers, dial and digital calipers. Checking parts and measuring instruments against standards. How to handle English to Metric conversions.
- Understanding tolerances in manufacturing. Additional basic programming.
- Week Three: CNC machine nomenclature, work holding and tool holding methods. G-Codes and conversational programming for milling.
- Week Four: Understanding Basic G-Codes for machining. Machining parts using conversational and G-Code programming on the Prototrak milling machines.
- Week Five: CNC mill terminology, controls and language and programming.
- Week Six: Work offsets and tool offsets on the HAAS mills. Basic programming and setup will be introduced.
- Week Seven: Machine setup and basic operation. Part programming and manufacture.
- Week Eight: Part programming and manufacture.
- Week Nine: Part programming and manufacture.
- Week Ten: Additional programming and operation of the CNC mills. Review
