Career Discovery Day provides students with the opportunity to discover and experience all of the college and career pathways at NCC.
Students will attend three breakout sessions and can choose from workshops in the following areas:
Breakout Session ONE: 9:00am-10:00am

| Melanie Brooks & Kurt Stuke | Where Does Writing Hide? / Identifying Informal Fallacies | This team taught workshop will explore Writing and Philosophy. Writing: “We are all born as storytellers.”–Kamand Kojouri. In this workshop, we will explore how potential stories are already living inside of us. We will write to some specific prompts that will help students discover the stories they might have to tell. Philosophy: You probably have heard the word “fallacy” – either in your classes, social media, or perhaps a conversation? In this workshop we will explore several informal fallacies and explore how shady reasoning is mid at best! The challenge is that sometimes these fallacies are difficult to spot; users can hide these mistakes in reasoning and do so to fool you. #SMH |
| Jennifer Tripp & Kom Kunyosying | When is the wrong thing the right thing?/ Poetry, music and instincts | This team taught workshop will explore Humanities & Literature: We will discuss moral and ethical dilemmas such as stealing bread to feed your family or the classic trolly problem. We will also do a song-to-poem literature exercise designed to help students use their instincts about the music they listen to, to better understand how poetry is written. |
