Psychology Program at Nashua Community College
Psychology is one of the most versatile and future‑proof degrees you can earn, powering careers in healthcare, tech, AI, business, education, public service, and beyond. At Nashua Community College, you will study how people think, feel, and act and learn to apply that knowledge in real organizations and communities.
NCC is a fully accredited institution with a strong reputation for academic rigor, preparing graduates who are well regarded by both universities and employers. Many of our students transfer into four‑year programs as juniors, while others step directly into meaningful entry‑level roles with experience already on their resume.
Courses and Transfer Readiness
The NCC Psychology Program provides a strong academic foundation that aligns with virtually all four‑year psychology curricula. You will complete core courses commonly required by bachelor’s programs, including:
- Abnormal Psychology
- Social Psychology
- Human Growth & Development
- Research Methods
These courses are required by nearly every four‑year psychology program, and we teach them at a high level to ensure you are fully prepared for upper‑division work. Years of formal transfer agreements and dual‑enrollment partnerships mean your credits transfer smoothly to four‑year institutions, and students typically enter as juniors—saving two full years of tuition while maintaining academic rigor and opportunity.
Your credits travel with you. If your direction changes, the psychology credits you earn do not go to waste because they apply to many related majors in the social sciences, health, education, and business.
Skills That Transfer Everywhere
Psychology is the rare major that prepares you for virtually any direction because understanding people, behavior, and communication is universally valuable. In the program, you will:
- Learn to evaluate evidence, question assumptions, and think rigorously through research methods and statistics.
- Build analytical confidence through designing studies, interpreting data, and applying findings to real problems.
- Deepen your understanding of motivation, influence, social interaction, and group dynamics, enhancing your ability to work on teams and manage conflict.
- Strengthen your communication skills, learning to express ideas with empathy and clarity—one of the most sought‑after abilities in today’s workplace.
- Study psychological ethics, preparing you for any field where decisions affect people’s lives, including healthcare, law, business, and education.
Unlike other degrees, a psychology education also helps you understand yourself; how you think, react, and relate. These skills will make you more effective in every dimension of life.
Learn From Practicing Professionals
At NCC, your professors are not just teaching from a textbook—they are practicing or former professionals who bring lived expertise into every class. Our faculty includes clinicians, researchers, HR specialists, behavioral analysts, and other professionals who can show exactly how theory turns into action and impacts people’s lives.
You will, of course, learn major theories and classic research, but faculty continually connect these concepts to their own work in mental health, education, organizations, and the community. Students consistently report that this combination of academic strength and real‑world insight is a major asset in preparing them for further study and employment.
Interactive, Flexible Learning
Our program is built around active, engaging instruction because research shows that is how people actually learn and retain knowledge. You will experience: Case studies, video, simulation, and interactive tools that bring concepts to life and not just long lectures and boring slides.
- Small, participatory classes where debate, dialogue, and peer perspectives are part of every session.
- Opportunities to apply psychological concepts to real‑world scenarios, projects, and collaborative assignments.
Psychology courses are offered in person, online, and in hybrid formats, with day, evening, summer, and winter sessions so you can build a schedule that fits your life. Our students range from recent high school graduates to career changers and lifelong learners, and this diversity of experience and perspective enriches every class discussion.
Affordable, Accredited, and Transfer‑Friendly
NCC is a fully accredited college with a strong track record of producing prepared, principled professionals. Formal transfer agreements with four‑year institutions ensure your credits are recognized and accepted, and dual‑enrollment options let you begin accumulating university credit while still at NCC at a fraction of the cost.
You gain:
- A degree grounded in rigorous coursework.
- A capstone internship that launches your career.
- A proven pathway to a four‑year degree if you choose to continue.
Affordable, accredited, and career‑launching, the NCC Psychology Program is a degree that works everywhere.
“Understanding why people think, feel, and act the way they do is not a specialty skill — it is the foundation of every meaningful career. At NCC, psychology doesn’t box you in. It opens every door.”
—Professor David Rondeau
A Major That Keeps Your Options Open
Psychology is an excellent choice if you are interested in people and behavior but are still exploring your long‑term academic or professional goals. A solid foundation in psychology supports later study in areas such as mental health, neuroscience, education, social work, business, communication, forensics, criminal justice, and public health. There is almost no major or job where understanding human motivation, relationships, and decision‑making is not valuable.
Psychology is one of the broadest, fastest‑growing fields in the modern economy and is no longer limited to traditional clinical or counseling settings. Whether you are drawn to mental health, technology, education, business, or public service, psychology provides scientific and practical grounding that travels with you wherever you go.
Careers, Tech, and a Growing Job Market
Today’s most in‑demand organizations—from Fortune 500 companies to AI startups to public health agencies are actively seeking professionals who understand human behavior. Graduates with psychology backgrounds contribute in roles such as:
- Mental health and human services in community agencies, hospitals, and clinics
- School psychology support, guidance, student services, and youth programs.
- Human resources, training, and talent development in corporate and nonprofit settings.
- Marketing, UX research, customer experience, and public relations.
- Forensics, law enforcement support, and justice‑related roles where behavior and decision‑making matter.
- Healthcare administration, public health, and community wellness initiatives.
Psychology + Technology and AI
Psychology is increasingly central to high‑tech and AI‑driven work. UX researchers shape how millions of people interact with apps and digital tools, AI companies rely on specialists in cognitive science and human‑computer interaction, and organizations need behavioral data analysts and AI ethics consultants to design ethical, effective systems. As AI becomes embedded in everyday life, the demand for professionals who understand human cognition, bias, ethics, and behavior has surged—and psychology graduates are uniquely positioned to lead in these areas.
“A future‑proof degree for a human‑centered world, the NCC Psychology Program prepares you for careers in healthcare, tech, business, education, and beyond.” —Professor Rondeau

Capstone Internship: From Classroom to Career
Most programs end with a final exam. Ours ends with real work experience. In your final semester, you step out of the classroom and into a supervised capstone field internship with a partner organization such as a mental health agency, school, hospital, tech company, government office, nonprofit, or business.
You will not be fetching coffee. You will contribute to real work—conducting intake screenings, supporting counseling or wellness programs, participating in organizational research, working alongside HR professionals, or supporting community health initiatives—depending on your placement and goals. The work is supervised, meaningful, and directly aligned with your interests.
During this internship, you will:
- Explore and “test drive” career paths in mental health, education, corporate, government, or community settings.
- Build confidence, professional skills, and clarity about your direction.
- Form relationships that often become mentorships, references, and lasting professional connections.
Many of our interns are offered paid positions before they graduate, turning their capstone into a direct pathway to a first paycheck in the field. You leave with verified references, hands‑on experience on your resume, and professional credibility that sets you apart from graduates who only have coursework to show.
Years of relationships with community service providers, hospitals, schools, government agencies, and businesses mean our graduates enter the workforce with a trusted network behind them.
Students considering the Human Services or Addiction Recovery Support Certificate are encouraged to speak to Professor David Rondeau, Psychology Program Coordinator, to determine best match for their career and academic goals.
There are no program–specific user or lab fees or admissions criteria.
We do have several courses using No/Low (NOLO) cost course materials with more being added each year.
