Humanities
The Associate in Arts degree program in Humanities is designed specifically to prepare students for successful transfer to a four-year baccalaureate degree program in a variety of majors. To achieve this purpose, the Humanities degree program provides students with a broad academic background in the field of fine arts, philosophy, and the humanities. Students may elect to focus their study in one of these three areas.
Students will have an opportunity to explore a variety of disciplines within the humanities while also completing the general education requirements necessary for transfer. The program also provides the student with the essential skills for academic, professional, and personal purposes, including the ability to communicate effectively; think critically; analyze and apply inquiry from research; gain a global perspective; and appreciate cultural diversity. The College’s required general education courses further strengthens students' skills.
Upon the completion of the degree in Humanities, graduates will be able to:
- Communicate effectively and fluently; read with comprehension; listen, speak and write competently
- Apply skills in reflection, analysis, logical reasoning, and evaluation to formulate judgments, reach conclusions, and solve problems.
- Evaluate and utilize quantitative and qualitative data and apply mathematical and scientific principles and methods
- Utilize technology and apply inquiry through researching and evaluating multiple perspectives from multiple formats
- Acquire knowledge and skills to function effectively as informed and responsible citizens
- Acquire knowledge and skills that will enable respect for diversity as well as an awareness of global interdependency
- Develop an appreciation of the variety of fields of study in the humanities
In addition, the graduate will be able to demonstrate competency in the general education outcomes.
Suggested Tracks: Humanities/Fine Arts/Philosophy
A minimum of 60 credits must be earned in the required categories to complete the program of studies. A minimum of 15 credits must be earned at Nashua Community College, and 8 of those 15 credits must be earned in courses at the 200 level.
