EV Safety Training Course

The Workforce Development department at Nashua Community College is hosting an Electric Vehicle safety training course for industry professionals.

The course will run over 4, 2-hour sessions on Aug. 10, 12, 17, and 19. The time will be 6:00 to 10:00.

The cost is $100 per person for the Aug. 10 session and will have the capacity for 9 students.

The course covers critical skills such as:

• Vehicle identification
• High-voltage shutoff procedures
• Extrication hazards, and battery fire suppression.
• Comprehensive EV training for emergency personnel covers several specialized protocols:
• Identification and Assessment: Learning to recognize hybrid/electric drivetrains, assess battery conditions, and identify manufacturer-specific safety indicators.
• Shutdown Procedures: Step-by-step methods to safely isolate high-voltage systems, disconnect 12-volt auxiliary batteries, and deploy tools like the Emergency Plug to prevent accidental re-engagement.
• Fire Mitigation: Specialized tactics for managing lithium-ion battery fires, preventing thermal runaway, and deploying EV-specific fire blankets
• Vehicle Extrication: Safe cutting points, air-bag deployment considerations, and structural integrity awareness for wrecked EVs.
