Associate in Science in General Studies

The General Studies program is designed for students who wish to pursue a flexible degree plan tailored to their specific educational or career goals. If you have earned credits at other colleges but have not completed a degree General Studies could be the path you need to get that valuable credential.

Why study General Studies here?

If you have career goals that cannot be met through another degree program, wish to sample various course offerings within degree programs to help guide your future, or have substantial prior learning consisting of credits from a post-secondary institution, training certifications, or experience that may equate to appropriate college credit, this program is for you. Small class sizes and individual advising are just part of what NCC can offer you.

Career options are numerous. The program encourages learning new skills, upgrading current job skills or building a foundation for further education.

Includes CSCN, ELET MATH or BCPT courses for Associate in Science Degree in Computer Networking. 

ECON201N/202N will satisfy the Quantitative Literacy elective for Associate in Arts Degree in English.

MATH106N or ECON202N is recommended for Associate in Arts Degree in Humanities.

MATH106N recommended for Associate in Science Degree in Nursing.

MATH106N, MATH110N, or MATH115N are recommended. HUMA230N, or HUMA109N recommended for Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies.

Program Outcomes

Upon the completion of the degree in General Studies, graduates will be able to:

  • Articulate an understanding of the importance of life-long learning
  • Find, interpret and evaluate information from a variety of sources and apply that knowledge through reasoned judgment and positive action
  • Express oneself clearly and in a relevant manner, through written and oral communication.
  • Employ both quantitative and qualitative reasoning to describe and solve problems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of complex issues and systems that affect how we live and manage our daily lives in the workplace and at home.
  • Apply logical, critical, ethical, and creative processes and information to identify problems, evaluate alternative solutions, and make decisions.
  • Incorporate and apply the fundamental principles of scientific inquiry, social sciences, and arts and humanities.
