Phi Theta Kappa?
Phi Theta Kappa is a national honors society that recognizes community college students’ academic achievement while offering opportunities for its members to develop leadership skills and fellowship through performing community service projects.
As a Nashua Community College student, you can share in the benefits of membership in Phi Theta Kappa’s 100 plus years of experiences and more than 3.5 million members in the United States and 10 sovereign nations.

As a student at Nashua Community College and member of Alpha Chi Kappa, our chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, you have access to $1.5 million in scholarships awarded to members each year, and four-year college partners now offer $250 million in transfer scholarships exclusively for Phi Theta Kappa members. The PTK Edge suite of free online courses helps students develop key skills to successfully transfer to a four-year college and gain employment.
What Is the Mission of Phi Theta Kappa?
As members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, we dedicate ourselves to the ideas that academic excellence among college students will be recognized and celebrated; those opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders will be provided; that the exchange of ideas and ideals will be encouraged; and those members will be inspired to achieve their educational goals. We believe that membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is in recognition of our persistence and academic achievement, and we celebrate the Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa as being those of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship.
In recognition of academic scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa publishes a journal of research by community college students that resulted in action-oriented projects that positively impacted their communities. In 2021, the inaugural issue of Change Makers: Phi Theta Kappa Journal of Student Leadership was published, highlighting the work of community college students who developed leadership- and service-based projects to generate positive changes on their campuses.
Ready To Celebrate Your Success?
To be eligible for membership, you must:
- Be enrolled in Nashua Community College that has a Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Chi Kappa
- Have completed at least 12 hours of coursework toward an associate or bachelor’s degree or at least 6 hours of coursework toward a certificate of 1 year
- Generally, have a cumulative 3.5 grade point average
