NCC Transportation Technologies: Live Work Policy and Customer Guidelines
Overview
Transportation Technologies offers live work services as part of our hands-on training for students. Live work allows our students to gain real-world experience under the supervision of ASE certified instructors, while offering the community, faculty and students access to affordable automotive and collision repair services. All work is performed for instructional purposes and may not be suitable for urgent or time-sensitive repairs.
Eligibility and Scope of Work
Live work is accepted at the discretion of program instructors and must meet educational objectives. Not all types of work will be accepted. Preference is given to jobs that align with the current curriculum and provide beneficial learning opportunities for students.
Examples of acceptable work (Mechanical):
- Brake system service
- Fluid changes and maintenance
- Suspension and steering
- Electrical testing and repair
- Air Conditioning/Heating
- Drivability issues (check engine lights)
- Clutch replacement/adjustment
Examples of acceptable work (Collision Repair):
- Minor to moderate collision damage
- Panel replacement and refinishing
- Cosmetic dent repair
Work generally not accepted:
- Major engine or transmission rebuilds (unless part of a specific course and instructor approval)
- Rust repair or restoration work
- Complete paint jobs
- Emergency repairs or time-sensitive jobs
Scheduling and Turnaround Time
Live work is completed based on class schedules, student availability, and instructional timelines. This is not a full-service repair facility, and delays are common.
All work must be scheduled with the instructors.
Turnaround time is typically 1 day to 3 weeks, but may be longer depending on complexity, parts availability, and student progress.
Vehicles may remain on-site for extended periods. Customers must be prepared for flexible timelines.
Collision repair projects can take anywhere from 1 week to an entire year depending on the nature and extent of work required.
Cost and Payment
Customers are responsible for the full cost of all parts and materials. Labor is provided at no charge as part of the instructional program.
- Parts will be ordered through the college’s approved vendors or as arranged by the instructor.
- Customer-supplied parts may not be used; they may be used at the instructor’s discretion.
- A “parts deposit” may be required before work begins.
- A final invoice will be provided when work is complete.
- Payment MUST be made prior to vehicle being released.
- Payments are made to the Business Office and can be cash, check or credit card.
Customer Responsibilities
- Vehicles must be in a safe and operable condition unless arranged otherwise.
- Customers must sign a live work agreement and waiver before work begins.
- Customers must remove all personal belongings from the vehicle.
- Once the repair is complete, vehicles must be picked up within 3 business days unless other arrangements are made.
Disclaimer
All repairs are performed by students under the supervision of ASE certified instructors. While we strive for high-quality work, this is an educational environment—not a professional repair facility. Therefore, we cannot offer any warranty or guarantee on the work performed.
By participating in this program, you understand that repairs are completed for training purposes and any issues that arise after the repair may not be covered or corrected at no charge.
