In Haiti, he was familiar with software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. “Here, I was looking for videography and multimedia - I have a strong background in graphic design from Haiti, and I talked to Dr. (Barbara) Bancroft about what I want, and she explained it to me. I thought it was something I could do - and now I want to do it forever,” he said, adding the career prospects in cybersecurity networking drew him to the program.
“Coming from a foreign country with no knowledge of English, the staff was open to helping me with everything, and they helped me with all my questions,” he said, “They helped guide me through the process, it was amazing.”
Homere was also awarded the Hoffer-Gittell scholarship in 2018, which goes to one underrepresented first-generation minority or immigrant student at a different CCSNH institution each year.
After graduating with his associate degree in computer networking in May 2018, he decided to pick up his certificate in Web Development and Cybersecurity from NCC as well, and enrolled for the 2018-2019 academic year.
While studying for his certificates, Homere is also a work-study student with NCC Director of Marketing Barry Meehan. In that role, he regularly creates postcards, fliers, digital ads, logos, and other promotional materials for the college.
After NCC, Homere plans to pursue his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Networking and digital design.
Living in Amherst, Homere has been away from Haiti for more than four years – but he has plans to return.
“I want to go back and open an outreach center to help those less fortunate, and teach them technology,”
